Former Michigan City High School Football Player Nuke Woodard Passes Away, Leaving Family Mourning

Ja’Mieriea Woodard, affectionately known by many as “Nuke,” tragically passed away on July 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of athletic excellence, unforgettable energy, and genuine love that touched everyone who knew him.

A celebration of his life is currently being planned.

Nuke Woodard Was A Star On The Field

Nuke made his mark early in life through football, a sport that became his passion and platform.

He played for Michigan City High School’s Boys Varsity Football Team from 2014 to 2016, earning a reputation for his explosiveness and high energy on the field.

His talent and drive continued to shine at the collegiate level, as he played for Independence Community College in 2018, and later continued his football journey at the University of Indianapolis.

He was part of a pivotal era in Michigan City Wolves football, a time when the program was beginning to gain traction and national recognition.

His contributions were instrumental in setting the tone for what would later become multiple trips to the state semi-finals.

Tributes Pour In For The Beloved Soul

Following the heartbreaking news, tributes from friends, teammates, and coaches flooded social media, painting a picture of a young man who brought life, laughter, and leadership wherever he went.

Michigan City Wolves Football shared,

“We would like to send our love and condolences to the friends and family of Ja’Mieriea ‘Nuke’ Woodard. Nuke was a 2017 graduate of Michigan City High and a big member of the MC football teams of the era… He was a high-energy kid who exploded all over the gridiron. We will miss him.”

Another friend shared a deeply emotional message:

“Nuke made such a huge impact on a lot of us and at such a young age… his charisma, the love he showed, his genuine heart… You hurt the city with this one. Praying for my Woodard family.”

A family member, reflecting on coaching Nuke during his youth, added:

“I remember the first time I coached my nephew in football. Very intelligent young man. I will always cherish those memories. Rest well, my nephew.”

While football was a huge part of Nuke’s identity, it was his infectious personality, big heart, and magnetic presence that left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Whether on the field or in the community, he made people feel seen, heard, and uplifted.

He is survived by his loving parents, Jermaine “Big-G” Woodard and Rae-Londa Sims, as well as his sister, Danyeal Wood, who continue to carry his memory and legacy.
