Norbert “Buzzy” McHale, a beloved teacher, coach, and respected community figure in Lowell and Nashua, passed away on May 14, 2026, at 81, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 13, 1943, to Leo and Doris McHale, Buzzy grew up in Lowell as the 13th of 14 children.

He grew up in Lowell and graduated from Keith Academy in 1961, where he excelled as an all-star in basketball and baseball.

Thanks to his athletic achievements, Buzzy was inducted into the Lowell Catholic Hall of Fame in 2010.

Buzzy continued his education at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, earning a BA in Education in 1965. There, he captained the basketball team and was named MVP in his final season.

Buzzy dedicated a prolonged time, i.e., over 40 years, to Tyngsboro High School, where he was a beloved teacher and Hall of Fame coach.

A lifelong sports fan, Buzzy loved the New York Yankees, enjoyed golf, and followed news and history closely.

Buzzy leaves behind his children Paula (with husband Butch Goring), Sharon, Brian (with Mary Gauthier), and Kevin (with wife Kelly), as well as seven grandchildren Molly, Mara, Brian Jr., Jack, Mays, Callyn, and Miles and two great-grandsons, Carter and Dawson Sheehan.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for June 1, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Nashua (11 Tara Blvd, Nashua, NH).

During this difficult time, we offer our prayers and condolences to Buzzy’s wife, kids, grandkids, friends, and extended family.

Rest Easy, Norbert “Buzzy” McHale!
