The Briscoe Brothers, Jay and Mark, forged a legendary wrestling career marked by their talent, heart, and making a lasting impact in professional wrestling.

Their journey includes successes, challenges, and a sad tragedy that continues to touch wrestling fans around the world.

Jay and Mark Briscoe, born Jamin and Mark Pugh, grew up in Laurel, Delaware, with wrestling in their blood.

The brothers shared a passion for the sport from a young age, dreaming of making it big in the squared circle.

Their professional wrestling journey began in 2001 when they debuted for Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) at Delaware Invasion on January 20.

In their first match, they were brought in as underdogs in a three-on-one handicap match against Trent Acid.

Though they didn’t win, the brothers’ grit and teamwork caught the attention of fans and promoters alike.

That same year, on March 24, Mark made his debut for Jersey All Pro Wrestling at March Madness Night 2, teaming with Jay in a losing effort against Insane Dragon and Dixie.

These early matches showcased the brothers’ raw energy and set the stage for their rise as one of wrestling’s most dynamic tag teams.

Briscoe Brothers Build A Legacy In CZW And ROH

The Briscoe Brothers’ partnership truly took off in CZW, where they captured the CZW World Tag Team Championship on July 14, 2001, defeating the original H8 Club.

This victory was a turning point, proving that Jay and Mark were more than just scrappy newcomers—they were championship material.

Their hard-hitting style and fearless attitude made them fan favorites.

In 2006, the brothers returned to Ring of Honor (ROH), a promotion that would become their home.

They made a bold statement at ROH’s Fourth Anniversary Show, inserting themselves into a tag team match and showcasing their signature intensity.

Over the years, the Briscoes became synonymous with ROH, winning the ROH World Tag Team Championship multiple times and delivering unforgettable matches.

One of their standout moments came on March 11, 2017, when Jay and Mark, alongside Bully Ray, defeated The Kingdom to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.

Their ability to adapt and thrive in various match formats solidified their status as versatile performers.

While the Briscoes were an unstoppable tag team, they also faced each other as rivals.

On June 22, 2013, at Best in the World, Mark challenged Jay for the ROH World Championship.

The match was a testament to their competitive spirit and deep respect for one another.

Though Mark didn’t win the title, the brothers’ ability to tell a compelling story in the ring showcased their unique bond.

The Briscoes’ reputation extended beyond ROH, thanks to the promotion’s working relationship with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW).

On January 4, 2016, at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in Tokyo Dome, Jay and Mark teamed with Toru Yano to defeat Bullet Club, becoming the inaugural NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions.

This international success highlighted their ability to shine on a global stage.

In 2026, the Briscoes made their debut for Impact Wrestling at Multiverse of Matches on April 1.

Facing The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson), they brought their signature intensity but came up short.

Still, their appearance in Impact Wrestling further cemented their reputation as one of wrestling’s top tag teams.

On January 17, 2026, The Wrestling World Mourned The Loss of Jay Briscoe, Who Died In A Car Accident In Laurel, Delaware

The news devastated fans, wrestlers, and, most profoundly, Mark, who lost not just his tag team partner but his brother and best friend.

Jay left behind a wife, three children, and a legacy that continues to inspire.

His youngest child, Matthew Jamin Pugh, was given the nickname “Baby Jay” in his honor, a touching tribute to a beloved father and wrestler.

Following Jay’s passing, Mark Briscoe has shown remarkable strength.

Continuing to wrestle in AEW, he has kept the Briscoe legacy alive.

In June 2026, Mark formed a new alliance called “The Conglomeration” with Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy, and Willow Nightingale.

This group represents a fresh chapter for Mark, blending his hard-hitting style with new allies while honoring his brother’s memory.

The Briscoe Brothers’ journey is the subject of a new documentary, Two from One: The Briscoe Story, produced by The Players’ Tribune in partnership with AEW.

Set to release on July 10, 2026, on AEW and The Players’ Tribune’s YouTube channels, the documentary explores the brothers’ rise in wrestling, their unbreakable bond, and Mark’s life after losing Jay.

It will also be shown live at Starrcast on July 12, 2026, in Dallas, Texas.

Mark Briscoe shared his thoughts on the project:

“On behalf of the entire Briscoe family, we are honored The Players’ Tribune was interested in sharing our story. We hope fans enjoy the documentary and continue to honor the legacy Jay left both in and out of the ring.”
