Jimbo Morgan, the Freeskiing pioneer, was inducted into the US National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame Museum’s class of 2026 on September 13, 2026.

This past summer, more than 300 industry supporters cast their votes to choose the Class of 2026. Eight nominees were chosen from a group of seventy.

The awardees are from well-known ski towns around the nation, including Aspen, Colorado; Truckee, California; Burlington, Vermont; and others. Each recipient has touched ski and snowboard sports over the decades as past athletes, coaches and longtime advocates within the winter sports industry. 

The team will formally be inducted into Lake Placid, New York’s U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame.

Jimbo Morgan’s Legacy And Personal Life

Having been an enthusiastic youngster since his early years, Jimbo Morgan was born on December 11, 1964, and believes he was destined to be a skier.

He is a pioneer of the skicross discipline and hails from Truckee, California. He also contributed to the coining of the word “freeski.” He was the first person to be photographed taking off with his skis in the air.

Morgan participated in multiple disciplines concurrently while on the U.S. Speed Skiing Team and in the Olympic speed skiing demonstration event in 1992.His early adoption of snowboarding had a lasting effect on the two sports.

He appeared in , accomplished various huge mountain descents in Europe and North America, and was a member of the first official freeski squad established by K2 in 1997.
