Payton Sutton, a 19-year-old from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, sadly passed away early in the morning on April 15, 2026.

Her family and friends are heartbroken, especially as they had planned to celebrate her 20th birthday on April 17.

She was a talented volleyball player and Defensive Specialist for the Lee’s Summit High School Varsity Volleyball Team, wearing #17.

Messages Of Comfort And Calls For Support In Payton’s Memory

Her mom, Crystal Sutton, started a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs and other urgent expenses.

The family has a small life insurance policy that won’t cover everything. They’re also facing additional legal and investigation-related costs, so any support would be greatly appreciated.

Because of the ongoing investigation, the family can’t share too many details yet.

Similarly, Aunt Meghan Lucas shared a heartfelt message asking others to keep her brother, Jim Lucas (Payton’s father), and their entire family in their thoughts as they grieve the loss of her niece, Payton.

Please keep my brother, Jim, and our family in your thoughts as we mourn the loss of my niece Payton. Today would have been her 20th birthday.

Friends and loved ones have been reaching out to Meghan Lucas with an outpouring of support and sympathy.

Many have shared their heartbreak over Payton’s passing, apologizing for the family’s loss.

Some offered prayers, kind words, and virtual hugs, while others said they were at a loss for words, overcome with emotion.

It’s clear that Payton touched many lives, and her loss is being felt deeply by everyone who knew her and her family.
