Udonis Haslem has two brothers and three sisters. His late brother, Samuel Wooten, passed away at the age of 36 in 1999.

Udonis Johneal Haslem, born on June 9, 1980, is an American professional basketball player who plays power forward for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Since his NBA debut in 2003, Haslem has been with the Heat, becoming the longest-tenured Heat player in franchise history and has won 3 NBA championships.

However, his professional career started with Chalon-sur-Saone of Betclic Elite, France’s top-tier men’s professional basketball league.

He also played basketball for two high schools, Samuel Wolfson and Miami Senior. After high school, the Heat’s power forward committed to play for the Florida Gators.

During his tenure, the Gators made it to the NCAA tournaments for four consecutive years, the first time in the program’s history.

Udonis Haslem Brother

was born to a family with 6 children; three sons and three daughters. However, nothing is known about his siblings, except his elder brother, Samuel Wooten.

Samuel is actually his stepbrother. Sam was the one who guided the Heat’s power forward to basketball.

Initially, Udonis was into football, and after they moved to Jacksonville, he began playing basketball with his elder brother.

Having a father who also played basketball at Stetson, it was only obvious for Haslem to play basketball.

The two brothers were born about 18 years apart and didn’t have the same last name, either. But these reasons didn’t keep them away from having a strong brotherhood.

Unfortunately, Samuel Wooten died of cancer in 1999, aged 36. The demise of Sam left his younger brother in great sorrow.

Haslem said, “It was hard on me. But he wouldn’t let anyone feel sorry for him. Every once in a while, he’d talk about how his body was aching. But I was the last person he would tell.”

The power forward credits his success to his elder brother, as he was the one who taught him basketball and instilled a work ethic in him.

Udonis Haslem Parents

Haslem was born to John and Debra Haslem. His father, Johnnie Dennis Haslem, was born in 1951 and played college basketball for the Stetson Hatters from 1972 to 1974.

His mother, Debra, battled drug abuse, and Udonis was raised by his stepmother, Barbara Wooten.

Later, Debra sought help and remained clean for nearly a decade. However, she was diagnosed with a tumor around her urethra, which led to her death in July 2010.

The professional basketball player experienced yet another loss of a family member as his father died on August 30, 2026.

Haslem And His Better Half

Udonis Haslem is married to his long-time partner, Faith Rein. Rein is an American sports broadcaster and podcaster. She was born to Gloria and Richard Rein in 1981.

The duo met each other during their time at the University of Florida and expressed their love.

While Haslem played basketball for the Florida Gators, Rein was a track and field team member. She even won a 100m national championship in her age division.

This beautiful couple exchanged their vows on August 24, 2013, after dating for 14 years.

They are blessed with two children; Josiah (born on January 8, 2007) and Elijah (born on February 18, 2011).

However, Udonis has another son from his relationship before he met Faith. When the Heat power forward was 18, he had a son, Kedonis, with his high school girlfriend, Keke James, on December 23, 1998.
