Dylan Taylor, a 30-year-old Menlo-Atherton High School freshman football coach, passed away on May 7, 2026, after a garbage truck struck him while he biked on Middlefield Road in Atherton.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Middlefield Road and Prior Lane in Atherton at 7:40 a.m.
The report suggests that Taylor was riding in a designated bicycle lane when a vehicle turning right onto Prior Lane struck him.
After the crash, emergency responders rushed Taylor to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, he sadly did not survive his injuries.
The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, with no indications of alcohol or drug involvement.
The community grieved and called for safer roads, and gathered on May 9 to show Taylor’s massive influence.
Dylan Taylor Was An Athletic Coach For Youth In The Community For Several Years!
Dylan Taylor was deeply involved in the community, coaching youth basketball and track and field.
As a coach, Taylor was a prominent figure in the local sports scene. At Menlo-Atherton High School, he served as a freshman football coach during the 2026-2026 school year, bringing energy and care to the team.
Beyond football, he coached youth basketball and track and field at La Entrada and Hillview Middle Schools.
Alongside coaching, Taylor worked as a special education paraeducator, most recently at La Entrada Middle School (2026-2026) and previously at Hillview Middle School.
A Menlo Park native, he worked closely with special needs students, providing daily support at school.
Moreover, he was taking classes at Canada College with the goal of working with special needs children.
For nearly a year, he had been a familiar and comforting presence in the school community, always at drop-offs and pickups.
His role involved supporting students academically and emotionally, with Las Lomitas School District Superintendent Erik Burmeister praising his love for mentoring and his growing impact.
Known for his kindness, happiness, and unwavering willingness to assist others, he made a lasting impact on the students he worked with.
His dedication to education, coaching, and supporting children made him an invaluable part of the community.

His loss has profoundly impacted students and staff, with the school providing additional counseling support.
Karl Losekoot, principal of Menlo-Atherton High School, , saying:
I am sorry, once again, to have to share some heartbreaking news. This morning, Dylan Taylor, an M-A athletic coach and member of the Menlo Park community, was riding his bike to work on Middlefield Rroad and was struck by a vehicle. Coach Taylor sustained life threatening injuries and did not survive. Coach Taylor grew up in the community, worked as a paraeducator in local middle schools, and has been an athletic coach for youth in the community for several years. His tragic loss will be felt by many.
Additionally, His colleagues described him as someone who “truly loved his job,” indicating a passion for making a difference beyond sports.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dylan Taylor’s family, friends, and well-wishers.
