The North Arlington 14U Junior All-Stars reached the Regional tournament; however, they faced an unfair setback when Coach Javier Cruz was ejected and banned over an obscure pine tar bat rule during a sectional game.
The North Arlington 14U Junior All-Star baseball team achieved a huge milestone for the team and the future of North Arlington baseball by making it to the Regional tournament.
However, their journey had been overshadowed by a heartbreaking and unfair situation.
During a recent sectional game, the team faced a tough challenge from an opposing coach.
After a North Arlington player hit the ball and got out, the coach from the other team said the player’s bat might not follow the rules. He pointed to a very little-known Little League rule about where pine tar can be placed on the bat.
Because of this rarely enforced rule, North Arlington’s dedicated manager, Coach Javier Cruz, was not only ejected from the game but banned from the entire tournament season.
Reportedly, the rarely enforced rule, buried deep on the Little League website, wasn’t clearly communicated in the official rule summary sent to managers before the tournament.
This entire situation felt unfair to the North Arlington community.
To make matters worse, the ruling blindsided the team, as other teams reportedly received warnings about this rule before Regionals, but North Arlington did not.
The umpires even tried to convince the opposing coach not to escalate the situation, recognizing that there was no intent to break the rules. Despite their pleas, the opposing coach pushed for the maximum penalty, resulting in Javier’s ejection.
Despite the Setback, North Arlington 14U Junior All-Stars Team Won Against New Hampshire!
The North Arlington 14U Junior All-Stars team didn’t give up regardless of the setback.
Coach Ed Duffy and Coach Billy Alvarez stepped up to lead the boys in Cruz’s absence, ensuring they still have a chance to compete.
The team faced New Hampshire in a critical game, fighting to keep their Regional dreams alive after a tough loss to Pennsylvania.
The North Arlington 14U Junior All-Star families called on their community, District 5, Section 2, and all of New Jersey to stand with them.
They asked for prayers and cheers to support the boys as they give everything they’ve got to keep North Arlington on the map.
The community is coming together to show their pride and support, determined to make this a memorable experience for the players.
One of the supporters, shared her words of encouragement, writing:
Let’s rally behind our North Arlington boys, their coaches, and President of the little league Javier Cruz. These boys have worked so hard to get to this moment. We believe in the power of prayer—every word of encouragement and every prayer means the world and will help lift our boys up tonight! Feel free to share and help spread the word 💙🙏🏼
And at last, the North Arlington 14U Junior All-Stars team proved themselves by winning against New Hampshire.
expressed his happiness by writing on Facebook:
N.A sees another day! I can’t say enough how proud I am of these boys. 23-7 NJ vs New Hampshire! LFG!
