    Álex Márquez Facts

    1. He began his professional racing career in the 125cc class in the 2010 season at the CEV Buckler 125cc Championship. However, he could not start in the season’s opening round at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as he did not meet the age qualification criterion. He turned 14 years old 5 days after that race.
    2. In 2014, Álex and Marc became the first pair of brothers to win world motorcycle racing championships, that too in the same year, when Álex won the Moto3 World Championship and Marc won the MotoGP World Championship.
    3. The brothers repeated the rare feat in 2019 when Álex won the Moto2 World Championship and Marc won his 6th MotoGP World championship. Álex’s triumph also made him the first-ever racer to win a World Championship at both the Moto3 and Moto2 levels.
    4. For his performances in the 2013 Moto3 season, he was honored with the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award.
    5. His bike number was 23, his birthdate, in his junior years and he continued using it till 2012 when he won the Spanish Moto3 Championship. He had to change it to 12 at the beginning of the Moto3 World Championship as the number 23 was already taken up by another racer.
    6. Álex changed his bike number again after getting promoted to the Moto2 Tier. This time he chose 73 and it was derived from the difference between his birth year (96) and his birthday (23).
    7. He stated in an interview that being the younger brother of a world champion racer has not been as advantageous as people believe. He mentioned that he has always been under extra pressure to be faster and better than his peers to prevent any allegations of nepotism regarding his rapid rise in the world of motorcycle racing.
