A proud MSU alumnus and one of Coloma High School’s most respected educators, Fred Paulsen, tragically passed away in August 2026.

As of now, there is no publicly confirmed information about the cause of Coach Fred Paulsen’s passing.

His family and friends have only shared that it was unexpected, and no official statement has detailed the circumstances.

Celebrating the Legacy of a Beloved Coach, Teacher, and Friend, Fred Paulsen!

Fred Paulsen’s life was defined by a deep commitment to education and athletics.

His journey began in 1973 at Northern Montana College, where he laid the groundwork for a career that would blend teaching, coaching, and mentorship.

After graduating in 1976, Fred ventured on a path that would touch countless lives.

In 1997, he began a transformative chapter at Custer High School in South Dakota, shaping young minds and guiding student-athletes with compassion and discipline.

After more than a decade of service there, he transitioned in 2005 to Coloma High School in Michigan, where he became one of its most respected and beloved educators.

Additionally, Coach Fred Paulsen was remembered for his warm personality and passion for the game.

He was involved with the Beeches Golf Club in South Haven, Michigan. His connection to the club extended beyond the sport itself.

He was a familiar face to members, staff, and visitors, encouraging players and fostering the friendly, welcoming atmosphere the club is known for.

His presence there reflected his lifelong commitment to sportsmanship and community, making him a respected figure both on and off the course.

Following his passing, the golf and local sporting community has been deeply affected.

Members of Beeches Golf Club, former colleagues, friends, and athletes he coached have shared heartfelt tributes.

One of his closest companions shared a heartfelt tribute, remembering Fred Paulsen as not only one of the greatest coaches but also a devoted husband and loving father.

He further said,

“We are heartbroken to share that Fred Paulsen passed away unexpectedly last evening. We were truly blessed to have spent meaningful time with him over the past three years, and we will forever cherish those memories. Fred will be dearly missed. He will be remembered as one of the greatest coaches, a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. We are still trying to process this sudden loss and appreciate your thoughts and support during this incredibly difficult time.”

Likewise,  also shared a heartfelt message, saying:

RIP Fred Paulsen. Beeches Golf Club lost one of its best last night. My friend, you will be missed more than you will ever know!!!”

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Coach Fred Paulsen’s family, friends, and well-wishers.
