- He became obsessed with wrestling after he got hooked on to the show in the mid-1980s. However, it wasn’t until his teenage years that he decided to turn his obsession into a career. He even took part in various backyard wrestling federations.
- Darren played American football, both offensively and defensively while in high school and continued to do even in college for a year before finally deciding to drop it and pay attention to his studies and wrestling.
- He is an advocate for the LGBTQ community and is also considered to be WWE‘s first openly gay superstar who came out while signed to the WWE. He spoke about it in an interview on August 15, 2013.
