Erriyon Knighton Facts
- He began participating in track and field in 2019 when he was a freshman at Hillsborough High School. During that time, Erriyon ran the 2nd-fastest time over 200 meters for an under-18 sportsman in world history, recording 20.33 seconds in the final held at the 2026 USA Track & Field Junior Olympics in Satellite Beach, Florida.
- Erriyon has recalled that he was a receiver for his high school football team. He had come to sprinting after his school’s football coaches recruited him for the track when they noticed his speed, which would be an asset on the field. He had grown up around football his entire life. Knighton was so good at it that he was receiving a lot of Division 1 offers. However, Erriyon had made the tough decision as he understood that in track the success of his career was fully in his hands, and he could see that he would be able to do it. In his first season, he had clocked 10.66 and 21.39, finishing 5th in the 200 final at the State Meet. Additional training, along with a growth spurt, had contributed to lowering his times on the track.
- Knighton has disclosed that he actually thought he did not run his best race in the US Track & Field Olympic Team Trials in June 2026. However, he could not be upset as at the end of the day, he was on the team that had qualified for the Olympics. He had also admitted that he was feeling it was a huge accomplishment but the fact had not sunk in totally, and probably would when he went home.
- Knighton has revealed that if he was to choose the athlete he regarded himself most similar to, he would select Usain Bolt mainly because of Bolt’s towering height, like his. He had also acknowledged comparisons to Bolt long back, much ahead of beating his record.
