- Initially, James started off as a model in April 1994 in Milan. It was a fashion scout for Calvin French who spotted him. From there, James went to be featured in several commercials.
- After having been featured in a string of commercials, he made his debut TV show appearance as Rory ‘Finn’ Finnigan in Hollyoaks: Movin’ On in 2001.
- As a result of having been asked to leave SMTV Live where he worked as a presenter for 3 months, James went on a hiatus as he lost his confidence only to return in 2003, to star as Jason Murdoch in Mile High.
