Julian studied at the Buckley Country Day School before going on to attend various public schools in the Great Neck, New York and Long Island area.
He enrolled at Dowling College in 1974 and completed his undergraduate studies in 1977, cum laude with a major in Biology and minor in Physics.
Later, Julian joined Clemson University, where he achieved his Master of Arts in 1980. In 1983, he was granted his Ph.D. in Zoology.
