- Growing up, he supported Racing Club de Avellaneda.
- The first-ever football match Mauricio Pochettino watched on television was the 1978 FIFA World Cup. He watched the match with his father Héctor at Centro Recreativo Unión y Cultura, the local sports club in Murphy.
- He played both football and volleyball between the age of 8 and 10.
