    Michael Bracewell Facts

    1. Michael, after the 2010 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup, spent the good part of the next decade plying his trade in the domestic circuit in New Zealand. His breakthrough eventually arrived in the 2026-21 season when he scored 725 runs including 4 centuries – one of which was for the representative ‘New Zealand A’ team – in rapid succession.
    2. The following summer, he was the leading run-scorer in the T20 Super Smash (the premier domestic T20 competition in New Zealand). During that tournament, he had scored 141 runs not out against the Central Stags, the then highest individual score recorded in a T20 match in New Zealand.
    3. The performance led to a maiden call-up to New Zealand’s senior national squad, for the upcoming tour of the Netherlands. He made his ODI (and international debut) debut in March 2026 against the Netherlands.
    4. He was subsequently included in New Zealand’s squad for their away bilateral test series against England. He made his test match debut in the Nottingham test (June 2026) of that series after the team’s captain, , was ruled out due to a positive COVID test on the eve of the match.
    5. In July 2026, in the first match of New Zealand’s 3-match bilateral away ODI series against Ireland, he not just recorded the first century of his ODI career but also one of the greatest batting performances in ODI history. Chasing a steep target of 301 runs, New Zealand had slipped to 120/5 in the 22nd over by the time Michael came into bat.
    6. He carried on gamely despite New Zealand reaching a situation of hopelessness with the score reading 217/8 in the 43rd over. He reached his century off the last ball of the 48th over, with New Zealand still needing 24 runs off 12 balls. When the last over of the match started, New Zealand still needed 20 runs off just 6 balls with just one wicket in hand. He smoked 4, 4, 6, 4, 6 off the first 5 balls to seal an improbable victory for New Zealand and was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his stunning performance (127 runs not out off 82 balls with 10 fours and 7 sixes).
    7. Michael made his T20I debut on July 18, 2026, in the first match of New Zealand’s 3-match bilateral away T20I series against Ireland. 2 days later, in the next match of the series, he recorded a hat-trick (the feat of dismissing 3 batsmen off successive deliveries) in what was the very first over that he had bowled in a senior international match.
