Rachel Griffiths is an Australian actress and director who made her acting debut in the series Secrets in 1993. Following her debut, she appeared in a supporting role in the comedy-drama film Muriel’s Wedding (1994), a movie that earned her an ACCTA Award for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role”. Griffiths, who has compiled numerous awards as an actress, also appeared on many critically-acclaimed movies including ‘s romantic-comedy film My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997) and in Hilary and Jackie (1998) during which she obtained a nomination for the category Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actress”.

- As a child, she recalled being inspired to become an actress after she watched the miniseries, Roots.
- She was rejected from the National Institute of Dramatic Art and instead joined the Woolly Jumpers, a Geelong-based community theatre group.
- Griffiths wrote and performed the one-woman show called Barbie Gets Hip that took place during the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 1991.
