Shivam Mavi is an Indian professional cricketer who came into the spotlight in 2018 during the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup where his lively pace bowling had attracted the attention of several senior cricketers, analysts, and pundits. His searing yorkers and bouncers were an integral force of India’s bowling attack that had eventually helped the team seal the title, the country’s 4th such triumph which was the most by any nation at that time. At the 2018 IPL (Indian Premier League) auction that was held just a day after India had defeated Bangladesh in the quarter-final of the aforementioned Under-19 World Cup, he was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders (2018–Present) for a whopping INR 3 crores, an amount that was 15 times greater than his listed base price. In the Indian domestic circuit, he has played for his home state of Uttar Pradesh (2018–Present) across all 3 formats.

    Shivam Mavi Facts

    1. Shivam, like most young cricketers in India, had dreamed of becoming a batsman. However, his coach, at the Wanderers Cricket Club in his hometown of Noida, had advised him to take up fast bowling instead. He had observed him bowling in the nets once and had felt that pace bowling would both suit him and help him progress further in his career.
    2. The move paid dividends soon as he was playing a tier above his age group at local tournaments. Although born and brought up in Noida, which is a part of the state of Uttar Pradesh, he was playing in Delhi at that time as Noida is also a part of the National Capital Region (NCR) that consists of Delhi and certain districts of the neighboring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. He had returned to play for Uttar Pradesh after not getting selected for Delhi at the Under-16 tier.
    3. On the very first day of the 2018–19 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (India’s premier domestic one-day cricket competition), he had lit up the tournament by recording a hat-trick (the feat of picking up 3 wickets in 3 successive deliveries), playing for Uttar Pradesh against Saurashtra.
    4. 2 months later, he had made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh during the 2018–19 season of the Ranji Trophy (India’s premier domestic first-class cricket competition). In his very first match, he had recorded a 4-wicket haul, helping his team bundle out Goa for a lowly total of 152 runs. In his next match, against Odisha, he had earned his maiden 5-wicket haul.
