Stefanos Tsitsipas is a Greek professional tennis player who came into the spotlight in 2018 when he had reached the final of the Canadian Open where he had become the youngest player ever to defeat 4 top-ten opponents in a single tournament. He won both the Stockholm Open and the Next Generation ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Finals later that year; and was named ‘ATP Most Improved Player of the Year’. He built on that success in 2019; reaching the semi-final of the Australian Open, the final of the Madrid Open, and capping off the year with a triumph at the 2019 ATP Tour Finals. He was the youngest player in 18 years to have won the coveted year-end championship title. At the junior tier, he had become, in 2016, the first Greek male player in the Open Era to have won a Junior Grand Slam title, by winning the Wimbledon boys’ doubles event. He had also attained the number 1 position in the junior world rankings that year.

- His parents, both experienced tennis players, had first met at a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tournament in Athens where his mother was a participant and his father was serving as a line judge. At the time of his birth, they were both working as tennis instructors at the Astir Palace resort hotel in Vouliagmeni, Athens.
- He had experimented with both one-handed and two-handed backhands while he was developing his game, as a child. By the time he was 8 years old, he had decided to use the one-handed backhand, a rarity in modern tennis, not just because it felt more natural to him but also because both his parents as well as his idol Roger Federer have used the one-handed backhand.
- Owing to his parents’ heritage, he is fluent in both Greek and Russian.
- In 2015, during a Futures tournament in Crete, he had nearly drowned at sea as a current had carried him away from the shore while he was swimming. He was rescued by his father and often credits the incident for his fearless attitude on the tennis court.
- He shares his birthday, August 12, with American tennis legend who is also, incidentally, of part-Greek descent.
- When he had reached number 5 in the official ATP singles rankings in August 2019, he had become the highest-ranked Greek player in tennis history.
- During Wimbledon 2026, Stefanos Tsitsipas lost the third-round match to which had happened on July 2, 2026. However, in that match, both were fined over conduct. Tsitsipas was told to pay a fine of $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct while Nick was fined $4,000.
- In November 2026, Tsitsipas was defeated by in straight sets in the group stage match of the ATP World Tour Finals.
- In January 2026, Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos again, but this time in the final of the Australian Open 2026.
